Get to Know Carly

LMHC

I generally use a Cognitive Behavioral approach with clients who respond well to learning specific skills that can be practiced outside of the session. I consider myself active within the relationship and will often provide clients with direct feedback along their path to improved emotional wellbeing. For those who prefer a less direct approach, I like to draw from a psychodynamic theory in order to help one can become more aware of the inner forces that motivate behavior. My approach to counseling is tailored to each individual’s needs as I recognize that no two clients are the same.

Imagine therapy as you and I climbing a mountain. There will be obstacles along the way that only one of us may be able to see. The goal is not for me to climb the mountain for you, but to both provide each other with vital information so that I can help to guide you along your own journey to the top.

My Professional Background

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a career focused primarily within the non-profit industry. Working in this setting has allowed me to expand cultural sensitivity to race, religion, and the LGBT+ population. I graduated from SUNY Binghamton with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology before obtaining an M.S.Ed. in clinical mental health counseling from Saint John’s University. I have worked extensively with adolescents, young adults, and the families of these individuals. I also have experience working in both a clinic and school setting which allows me to be utilized as an advocate and ally for parents and students navigating the educational system.
