Going to therapy is like doing an upgrade on your life, similar to how you might upgrade your phone or computer. You get an opportunity to filter through patterns of thought and emotion to identify what no longer serves you, then build a new system that allows you to live your most fulfilling life.
I believe in a direct and honest approach with a strong focus on collaboration. I encourage and empower my clients to drive the therapeutic process while I take the passenger seat offering guidance and tools to help them move through whatever barriers are in the way of their happiness. Therapy will allow you to heal as you become more aware of your inner strengths and use them to overcome life's challenges.
I started my career in the social work field in 2013. I have worked in a number of different settings outside of therapy, including community advocacy and outreach, program development, and substance abuse rehabilitation. I've had the opportunity to work with people from many backgrounds and have picked up a number of therapeutic techniques along the way.
In my experience as a therapist I've found that we're all not very different from each other. Often we feel that we are unique in our problems and experiences, and while the details may not match exactly, the marks left behind can be similar. Many of the struggles we have are a part of the human condition, but there is hope. Healing and growth are possible. I use an integrative approach in therapy to maximize the benefits and ensure that the specific needs of each client are addressed.
When I'm not working, I enjoy exploring in nature. Grounding myself at the beach or taking in the fresh air of the woods, I feel a sense of freedom outdoors. I am a self proclaimed chef and love creating new concoctions from things I've grown in my garden. I have a passion for yoga, although I've been slacking lately, and I love to burn incense and sage when I'm meditating at home.
Recently, I've been diving back into painting and dancing, a couple of hobbies I loved doing when I was younger. I've been told I have an old soul and I can be a little quirky. Humor is one of my favorite things to use in therapy, when appropriate of course. Sometimes it can be so cathartic to just laugh it out.
During the consultation you and one of our Clinical Coordinators will discuss why you're interested in starting therapy or coaching, and review your goals. We can also answer any questions you may have about our services. Consultations are by secure video conferencing session, or by phone.
