My approach to therapy is to really understand my clients personal life experiences and the role they played in forming their identity. Being fully known and accepted is the foundation of the therapeutic process and from there we can discuss goals and interventions aimed at obtaining these goals. It is only when trust is built in the context of a therapeutic relationship that real change is possible.
Specifically, I used a combination of therapy approaches focused on helping people regain the ability to regulate their emotions and reduce their symptoms. As a tele-therapist I find that a combination of both Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) work well together. I am also trained and very experienced in EMDR and if needed would be able to offer a modified version of this intervention to help reduce the intensity of traumatic events.
The majority of my experience has been focused on working with PTSD and developmental trauma. The symptoms of these disorders, anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, relational issues, problems with self-esteem is my focus and where most of my experience is. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings from inpatient treatment facilities , to the privet practice setting.
Aside from being a therapist I am a husband, father of two, and aspiring author. I have spent a lot of time traveling and really enjoy getting to know other cultures. I love the outdoors and before having a family spent most of my time in the mountains rock climbing and snowboarding. Now, as a family man, I spend most of my time playing with my boys as they discover the world for the first time.
