My Favorite Quote
"For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn't understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.” — Cynthia Occelli
I work to provide all clients with a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment. My approach to therapy is eclectic, drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral, Dialectical-Behavioral, and Relational orientations. I believe that collaboration is key to creating an effective therapeutic relationship and empowering an individual to grow. No two people are the same and I look to the individual as the expert on their experience. With support and guidance, I believe that all individuals can cultivate resilience through learning new skills and tapping into their inner strengths.
I developed a strong interest in mental health and well-being while working in a Health Psychology Lab during my undergraduate experience at Brandeis University. I went on to study the relationship between physical health and mental health while completing my Master's degree at Boston College. Beginning a career as an eating disorder therapist felt like a natural segue from the research I had done while in school.
For 4 years, I worked as an individual, family, and group counselor in the outpatient and inpatient programs at the UC San Diego Eating Disorders Center. While working at UCSD, I developed an interest in working with college-aged students due to the complex nature of stressors and responsibilities this population often encounters. This led me to transition to providing more generalized counseling at the University of San Diego Counseling Center.
Outside of the therapy office, you can be sure to find me enjoying the outdoors. San Diego provides the perfect setting for year-round hiking and backpacking -- one of the many reasons why I moved here from the east coast. I also love spending time at home with my cat, Rocco. He's the perfect companion for practicing yoga and baking tasty desserts.
