My Approach

I enjoy helping people find a deeper sense of themselves and live a more intentional life. In our first few sessions I usually focus on getting to know my clients, getting a thorough history, and identifying long term hopes and goals for therapy. From there, I combine a person-centered, humanistic approach focused on developing a validating and safe therapeutic relationship with behavioral interventions to help clients effectively target and work toward specific changes they want to see in their lives.

I enjoy getting creative with interventions and do tend to assign homework between sessions which may include journaling, reading material, mindfulness practice, diary cards, and practicing specific skills discussed in sessions. The goal of homework is to provide space for skills practice, help drive treatment, and to speed generalization and processing of new skills and concepts. I enjoy learning about new facets of psychotherapy, biology, and the brain.

I like to incorporate mindfulness and somatic work into my work with clients to help tie in the mind-body connection of mental health and well-being.

My Professional Background

I spent a large portion of my career working in community mental health agencies, initially with children, teens, families, and young adults and later with adult populations. In my time in community mental health, I received a lot of training and experience in working with trauma and marginalized populations. More recently, I have worked in a DBT setting and private practice. I have had training in foundational DBT and trauma-focused CBT.
