While I take a primarily psychodynamic approach to therapy, I also feel it is important to draw on other modalities and techniques in order to provide person-centered care. I often incorporate aspects of humanistic and relational approaches and utilize expressive therapy and mindfulness techniques. I strive to empower clients to obtain greater self-awareness by accessing and utilizing their own inner resources in a safe and supportive environment. As a Creative Arts Therapist I believe that art-making can be a valuable therapeutic resource. Participation in art therapy does not require any prior art experience and is concerned with meaningful expression rather than the creation of a finished product.
I have worked in both the hospital and community settings with clients from a variety of backgrounds and with diverse lived experiences. I have helped individuals struggling with a broad spectrum issues including severe mental illness, anxiety, depression and trauma. I believe that therapy should provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment in which clients can explore their thoughts and feelings and gain a deeper understanding of self. At the same time therapy assists in strengthening coping skills and providing tools to facilitate growth and healing.
I enjoy making art, spending time with my friends and family and lately I have been learning more about plants in my attempt to keep my houseplants alive.
